"The choices we make in life define who we are and what we become. MDC explores the various experiences that we sometimes go through in our pursuit of our self-identity. In the end, we live because we choose. And we choose to DANCE."

TOMORROW'S LTC :)
Friday, December 7, 2012 12:24 PM

Are you excited?
It’s 7th December! Our much awaited LTC is finally arriving tomorrow!
Hope that you’ve packed for it already and that you can’t wait for the games.
Come with lots of energy and remember to bring water (:
The updated packing list is on the Facebook event page so go check it out!

Excitement aside, here are some updates on what has been going on in MDC..
we’re two weeks into the school holidays already, this is the second week of holidays (:
Last Wednesday was our first practice after ending the school term so non-SYF dancers practised the Funhouse choreography while the SYF dancers resumed their SYF training.
Sho, Junyi and Peter led the non-SYF dancers in the Funhouse choreography while Annabelle and Rajali led the SYF dancers in learning ballet basics.
With several of us not having ballet background, learning the ballet basics felt a little odd at first, we weren’t very used to maintaining a straight back while doing the different postures. However, with the guidance of Rajali and Annabelle, we were able to enjoy doing the bar work. You know how in shows, whenever they portray a dance studio scene, there’ll be little girls in tutus doing bar work, doing Plie..well, that day, we were like those girls doing bar work, except not so little, haha. After learning and doing some bar work, Annabelle proceeded to teach us her choreography to train us how to emote and to put the steps that we learnt to choreography. We danced to Who You Are by Jessie J and all of us had a lot of fun when we learnt to emote and to connect with the song.

It is interesting how we are not supposed to do some moves too precisely because doing it too accurately would cause us to be unable to bring out the contemporary genre of the dance. Rather, we were made to focus on throwing our weight and yet maintaining some form of control over our bodies while throwing our weight. All in all, though SYF practice was quite physically tiring, we persevered because we had a lot of fun. It wasn’t just connecting to the song or learning how to emote that was cool but also that we realized that for the same steps, there can be a lot of different styles to it because every dancer is an individual and so, every individual has their own style when it comes to exhibiting their interpretation of the song.

This two weeks wasn’t just about SYF practice though, we were also preparing for the upcoming LTC :D This week, our studio floor was polished :D YAY WE HAVE SUPER SHINY FLOOR NOW HEHEHE. We had to shift everything out though but now the studio looks much more organised. Alrights, that’s all for now :) See you at camp tomorrow!

Yours, Anne-Marie
